Another spring day in January!

IMG_1633They are saying it’s going to be in the 80s again today, so I took the opportunity to wear another short-sleeved shirt.  Still, I only get a few months each year to wear closed toed shoes, so I stuck with a pair of those.

I took a little time this morning and found a new way to tie the scarf.  It took a few tries, but here’s a close-up:

The site I found (scarves.net) it on calls this a Fancy Braid, but it fits my goal.  Color around my neck, a nice pattern visible against the black, but not too heavy.  More like a thick necklace than anything else.

I also tried a new lipstick for the inside picture today; Sonia Kashuk Lip Crayon in Rosey Nude.  The packaging made it look a bit more brick red than it is looking on me, so I’m not sure if this is the best red for me.  We’ll see how well it lasts.

What do you think of the red lip?

Is that a good red lip or could there be a better shade out there for me?

If you wear red lipstick, which one?

Back to the grind; January 2013

It’s wednesday, but it FEELS like a monday.  I am well rested, and although I enjoyed being off for a while I am now enjoying a slow first half week back in the office.  Half the university is still out (we get a lot of vacation time compared to corporate america, but it’s a use-it-or-lose-it thing, and this is the time of year a lot of people take off to burn time), so it’s quiet around the office.

However my day isn’t actually quiet overall.  I have a meeting today over at the community college where I am teaching this upcoming semester; we have a new system and this is orientation, so today requires looking decent and running around.  In hindsight, I probably should have worn pants.  It’s COLD here (45 when the picture was taken this morning) and I would have been warmer running around in pants.

Regardless, this is the outfit I posted about yesterday:

  • Red Skater Dress (ASOS Curve, $43.98 in red, but $21.99 in Blue or Pink)  [new]
  • Black Tights (We Love Colors, $15.00) [new]
  • Aerosoles Roller Rink Mary Jane Pumps (Marked down to $19.99!) [new]
  • Calvin Klein Cardigan [old]
  • Animal Print Scarf (the boutique across the street)
The scarf is necessary for work.  This dress is made to have the rucheing sit between the breasts, which on ME looks WAY too low cut for work.  Having said that, I’m ordering the dress in another color (Navy/Blue) because the fit and fabric are just terrific. Princess seams are GREAT on me and this dress does a terrific job of making me look more curvy than round.  I ordered grey tights to go with the new colored dress and will show THAT all off soon.

1st Day Back of the New Year

I’m toying with this outfit for tomorrow; two small details.  First, the Mary Janes I intend to wear weren’t on polyvore.  They are the Roller RInk Mary Janes from Aerosoles, and have some animal print.  See –>

Second, I’m not sold on the long cardigan – When I get dressed tomorrow morning, we will see if that works or if I want to go with something shorter.

Thoughts?

1st Day Back of the New Year

ASOS plus size fitted dress / Boyfriend cardigan, $23 / Gerbe, $48 / A2 by Aerosoles snake print pumps / Brahmin printed bag / Leopard scarve, $16
P.S. Anyone know if there is a way to add the correct items to Polyvore?  It never seems like they have the items I’m looking for….

Thursday Threads!

As promised, here is the new Thursday Threads link-up.

Of course it didn’t occur to me until, oh, 9pm, that by the time I get up in the morning, take a picture of my outfit, and post the picture, it will be fairly late.

So I’m posting the link-up NOW, and will come back and add my outfit in the morning….

In the meantime, say hello to my co-host, Daenel from Living Outside the Stacks.  She has a great, funky style and a pair of boots that make me go wow!

Random thoughts

I’m almost over animal prints; they are EVERYWHERE.  I saw a little old lady at Burlington Coat Factory in a wheelchair today, wearing an animal print top and a grey cardigan.  To me, that means the trend is gone too far.  I know I’m getting a little tired of it…

What is with grown-up women in sweaters with twee animals on them?  I’m not talking the dreaded holiday sweater.

It’s amazing the things you notice when you start taking pictures of yourself every day.  For example, for whatever reason the outer half of my eyebrows appears to be getting sparse and light.  The result is that it starts looking like I have half eyebrows.  Time to do something about that…

When I had no spending money I had a PILE of things I wanted to buy.  Now that I have some money in my spending money account, I can’t find anything I want to buy.  Or at least I can’t seem to make a DECISION to buy anything.  I spent hours shopping today and nothing seemed quite good enough.

A final thought:
