OOTD: September 24, 2012

With a long work day ahead, the dreaded Monday morning video conference for “Team Building”, and an eye appointment all before 11am, I needed more than jeans and a tee for work this morning.     It’s still very warm out, so pulled out a light ombre white,  green and blue top from Liz Claiborne Woman (3x) from JCP earlier this summer, paired with favorite boot cut jeans, and platform sandals X-appeal “Kilda” from Rack Room ($39) shoes.  I love these shoes they embody the crisp nautical look that I favor in the summers.

To complete the look, I added this year’s Brahmin acquisition, a blue/white drawstring bucket tote, the “Trina” in Pacific $345.  They appear to be sold out but I have seem them pop on eBay.   I love Brahmin’s bags; this style is perfect for travel and holds a slew of gear with panache, including an iPad bottle of water, etc.  I have another one in this style that I have hauled all over the world and it still looks fabulous.   This tote from their “Pacific” collection is very out of character for the normal Croc embossed leather they are known for, but I so love nautical, I saw it at Dillards, started hyperventilating and bought it without even looking at the price.    Normally once a bag gets up in the $300+ range, I tend to circle the purchase for a few days to make sure it’s not a total impulse, but I just had to have it.

Finally, I added a cute turtle bracelet I have had for years.   I’m noticing more green out there in the stores this year YAY!, so there will more opportunity to wear it ahead.

Ok, Ok, I finally succumbed to the colored jeans trend! Bright Blue from Jessica Simpson  ($20, Marshalls)  I know this violates Rebecca’s  “no jeggings rule” but with an oversized black top from Cato ($17), I think it works.   Plus I finally can wear these cute Anne Klein “Buttons” driving mocs I scored at Marshalls (Zappos, $69)

(From Rebecca:  It’s not so much as a rule as a cry for alternatives.  They work best on women built like you who have great legs; not so well on women built like me.)

I added this fabulous blue glass chunk necklace from Cato, which I have worn with tons of different outfits and it always draws a compliment, and two bangles from a set of 3 (blue, black, white) from Chicos $38).

Still warm but time for some fall colors.     Working from home today with a really busy day ahead so I opted for comfy, yet pulled together.  Somehow on those really crazy days, it gives me an edge over my WFH uniform of yoga pants and a tee.    Plus I have the added benefit of being able to leave the house looking great with zero additional prep.

The new jeans arrived and *BLISS*; they look and fit great, the perfect length, cut, etc.     Paired with a Michael Kors Poncho top I bought in late Spring from Dillards ($89) in red/navy, Size 1X.   The material in the top feels like a premium soft tee you’ve had for years.

I added a navy/silver necklace and earrings from Chico’s, and platforms from Naot, (Treasure, Polar Sea) ($156) to complete the look.

Sorry about the wet hair, one of those mornings and hey you are here to see the clothes right?

Sunday brunch with a close girlfriend over in Dallas.   Woke up to drizzly rain, in the 60’s which is a bit unusual for September, so decide I probably need light layering.

I wore my new Ariat black cowboy boots and a pair of grey jeans with a black leopard type print Size 22 from Cato ($25).  Then I paired jeans with a basic black tank from Chicos – Size 3.

Recently I scored a black Linda Lea soft drapey jacket from Marshalls $16.  Its ruffle detail, combined with the otherwise monochromatic looks, was just enough to take the hard edge off the outfit while providing a feminine layer to keep me warm.

I finished off the outfit with a Necklace & Earrings, Sam Moon $10, and a few bangle Bracelets that came in a big set from Stein Mart for  $12.

One thing about Dallas; throw on some cheetah and bling and you are dressed appropriately for pretty much anything!

It’s over 100 out and I’m heading out to a nice restaurant with a friend.    Here’s an example of a trend I adore: some sort of breezy chiffon poncho I can toss over a simple cotton tank and jeans that hides all the figure flaws the tank exposes.

I found the poncho on clearance at Avenue for $10; it’s a greyish white with two shades of plum and black.  I paired it with a plum Faded Glory tank in 2x from Wal-Mart and my favorite go-to jeans, a 22W from JCP St. Johns Bay in pure dark wash.  These jeans are ridiculously fabulous for the price ($25).  They fit me flawlessly, are comfy and hold their shape remarkably well.  The demin looks and feels similar to a premium denim.  I love them, and I wish I had bought a backup pair.  These are pretty close and on clearance for $17, though, so I just may have to have them.

Now if i just had Rebecca’s Naturalizer Glee Strappy Sandals in Jungle Orchid my feet would match!!!  but alas I had to struggle by with Volatile Trixxy Flips.

Lately there have been a slew of premium flip flops, and it has not been  unusual for them to be $75-100. At first I balked, but 1) I live in a warm climate, 2) they are super comfy, and 3) I would pay that for sandals.   Given that the fit/finish of the shoe and quality of the rubber is far superior, I’ve gotten over my mental block about the price.

Finally, I paired the top with a long necklace from Chico’s, pretty sure from their collection last Spring ~$40 and a chunky magenta bangle I have had in my collection for years.
