Just a quick reminder: Tomorrow I will be hosting the THURSDAY THREADS linkup! Come back and post your favorite outfit of the week!
I didn’t quite expect “Take one, pass it on” to be as difficult as it was today. Last night I laid out an outfit that looked great, but when I saw it in daylight the colors weren’t working together in a way I thought was attractive. I found myself VERY tempted to go back to an outfit that looked a lot like what I wore on Monday (grey and red, this time with some black), and that just wouldn’t have done at all. In the end, I kicked myself a bit outside my comfort zone to come up with today’s (more colorful) outfit.
- Purple pants (Coldwater Creek, on DEEP after christmas clearance)
- Grey Tee (ASOS, from yesterday)
- Pink cardigan (Marshall’s)
- Scarf (Marshall’s)
- Purple purse (Kate Spade on DEEP clearance last fall)
- Black Shoes (Aerosoles by way of Zappos)
With the exception of the shoes, this makes the third straight day of no black. That is kind of an accomplishment in and of itself.
My husband cracked me up this morning when he told me that this worked, although he never would have thought it would. I figured that scarf works for pulling the colors together without being too match-ey.
All that said, I am mostly pleased with this sweater. I picked it up at Marshall’s last week and am very pleased with the color; in the closeup I think it works really well with my skin.
Finally, it took entirely too long last night but I did my nails in a nice metallic purple and it’s neat enough for me not to hate it. Go me!
I wear olive green and black together a lot, but it didn’t occur to me until I saw this pin that the same green would go well with grey.
So here is my interpretation of this look (minus the Balenciaga bag) for today’s Take One, Pass it On. Working off the same grey pants that I wore yesterday, today I added:
- Grey knot jeans (similar, Coldwater Creek)
- Grey tee (Asos)
- Olive Jacket (Coldwater Creek)
- Olive scarf (Coldwater Creek, old)
- Olive Suede Hobo (Dooney and Burke, purchased off eBay)
- Olive bangles (Julep)
- Black boots (Madden Girl)
I really like these colors together, and the cotton jacket is a good weight for a day like today. They are saying it will be in the mid 70s, but it still feels pretty cold out. My husband* also informed me that he liked the scarf colors. In fact the piece of this outfit I like the least are the pants; I think the shade of grey is off from what I would have preferred.
The tee, on the other hand (from ASOS Curve) is awesome; soft, comfortable and nice looking. I wish they carried it in every color of the rainbow because, frankly, I would buy them all.
The jacket was a great shopping find of mine from this past fall. I got a great deal on what amounts to the perfect fall/spring weight arizona jacket in a color I adore. I need to wear it more (although it’s been out a couple of times as more of an overcoat so far).
*My husband has a very preppy and somewhat conservative style. This is a man who knows all the ins and outs of traditional menswear and regularly irons his jeans. He has excellent, if traditional, taste. So it’s been kind of neat for him to tell me lately that he really likes a lot of my clothing and how I put it together. I had resigned myself to always looking kind of sloppy next to him, but I seem to have found a way to be me (ie not so preppy or rigid) while still looking pulled together.
