One of the things I LOVE about looking at blog hops is that you can get a real flavor for the current trends by looking at the pictures. And the trend of the moment is Black and White, specifically STRIPES (although also polka dots, florals, and geometrics). I had already decided to ground my spring wardrobe (and shopping) in those trends, and I had a really successful shopping trip this past weekend to build up my collections of these items.
Yesterday I showed black and white stripes and dots with a BIG punch of color. Today I responded to a forecast of “100% chance of rain” by going with just a straight, crisp black and white.
- Striped jacket (Marshall’s, similar, but there are many others out there)
- Black tee (Cynthia Rowley, purchased at Marshalls)
- Black “Jeggings” (Lane Bryant last fall)
- Black boots (Madden Girl)
- Black and white geometric necklace (Dressing Your Truth Type 4 Store)
- Black and white geometric bracelet (Kate Spade, purchased off ebay)
Here’s a closer look at the necklace and bracelet, both of which are likely to see a lot of wear this spring.
I had to be in early for a meeting this morning, so I didn’t change purses. The pink one in the background came from LittleBlackBag.com, an interesting take on shopping that starts with picking an item at a steep discount, receiving 2-3 free additional items and trading with other shoppers to get things you like better.
One of the things that fascinates me about the second picture is that, while they TELL us all that stripes will make us look wider, I think I look narrower than usual. Since my chair is in the same place and I’m sitting in the same position as, say, this picture, that’s an interesting optical illusion.
