Winter in AZ is kind of bi-polar

IMG_1710Gotta love winter in AZ.  Today is forecast to be in the low to mid 80s, but with an 80% of rain.  In upstate NY that would mean summer.  Here, it’s January.  A week ago it was highs in the 50s.  Sometimes I really don’t get the weather here.  And dressing for it is anyone’s guess.

Despite lighting to the contrary, those boots are a dark brown.  In a perfect world I would be able to buy more pairs in black, since they fit perfectly, look good, have good traction and are comfortable.  I actually bought 2 pairs of black when I bought this pair of brown, but that was about 12-13 years ago, and needless to say I have completely worn out both black pairs.  (I still check every year in the fall just to see if maybe they brought this style back.  They never do.)  Still, the brown ones are holding on for dear life and deserve to get worn at least once in a while.

  • Brown boots (LLBean, a long time ago)
  • Skinny Jeans (Avenue)
  • Brown Tank (J.Jill)
  • Cardigan (Coldwater Creek, a couple years old)
  • Giraffe Bag (Fossil)
  • Necklace (can’t recall)
  • Pardon my French Bracelet (Kate Spade)

The bracelet still makes me smile.  I had it on my wish list at christmas but it was one of the things no one bought me.  After christmas I went back through and picked up the things I especially loved (or though were especially unique) for myself.  This bracelet was at the top of the list.  There is something about being able to not exactly swear at people during a business meeting that makes me smile!

BelkThe bag is one I picked up a few months ago and has turned out (unlike yesterday’s purple one) to be a good size for day to day stuff.  The giraffe part is fuzzy and has a really neat texture, plus the brown leather has a great feel.  (This is part of why I have stopped buying cheap bags; I’m getting spoiled by the feel of good quality leathers and now I don’t want to deal with lesser ones.)

Looking at these pictures, though, I’m actually less sure than I have been about the cardigan.  I’m not sure it’s a flattering shape/cut/fit for me.  I am trying to be a bit more purposeful about only keeping pieces that are attractive and flattering, so I may have to give this one some more thought.  Of course it could be the pictures.  I think that I’m not happy with how it looks like the button is pulling even though there is a LOT of room around my middle and the sweater is in no way tight.  What do you think?

    LOVE the bag!
The sweater is perfectly fine – cute, comfortable, and appropriate – and heaven knows, most days I’m thrilled with that. But since you asked for opinions, I don’t think that it is as flattering as some of your other pieces. I don’t think it’s the shape so much as the color – both the odd color blocking and the browns themselves – you strike me as someone who glows in winter colors, not autumnal ones?

I am definitely a dark winter, but I have been fond of the dark autumn shades as well. You might be right though; I might need more clear colors; the tweedy nature of this sweater makes the color more muted, and that may not be the best on me.

Winter in Michigan is bi-polar today, and today it’s COLD. The outfit looks great. Visiting today from the Aloha hop.

  3. I’m so jealous of your weather!! It is absolutely freezing in Pennsylvania this week! Many schools have had delays and cancellations. Looks like you’re keeping warm though. Love the jeans and boots!

I personally love the cardigan on you. The color blocks give it a slimming look. That was the first thing that struck me when I saw the photo.

  5. I like the cardigan. I think it needs another button or to be pinned so it doesn’t look like it’s pulling. The fault is in the design not you. It’s still very cute and I probably wouldn’t have even noticed it pulling if you hadn’t said any thing.
